Foreword

Ayurveda, the science of life after descending from its celestial to terrestrial stage was propogated by great sages with their disciples for the benefit of sentients. Compendiums were prepared by these erudites for advancing the knowledge of each subject/speciality. The education or transmission of knowledge was done with very close association of teacher and disciple, as the disciples were living for away from their grahasthāśrma with their teacher in his āśrama. The teacher effortfuly was not making them only vaidya rather imbiding in them all the qualities for becoming a humane, compassionate and dutyful person.

Wheel of time turned, foreign invasion of the country destroyed rather annihilated not only Ayurveda but entire sociocultural scenario. The progress made in concepts and therapeutics of Ayurveda was totally halted but for invention and propogation of use of herbomineral or mineral medicines.

Twentieth century more so its later half may be considered as a period of renaissance of Ayurveda. With sea change in methods of education college for imparting teaching and training were started, this spate is advancing unabated. Influence of modern technology and other advances have affected education and training of Ayurveda; even at times help of modern technology becomes a necessity. Even the attitude of students has changed. They prefer to understand every topic in unambiguous way with logical explanations. To quench the thirst of knowledge of these youngsters, it is mandatory for teachers to provide intelligible literature. It is to fulfil her duty as a good, affectionate, intelligent and diligent teacher, Dr. Sulochana has scribed the book “Ayurvediya Striroga”.

Today available ancient literature of Ayurveda is fragmentary, one has to fathom deep to pick up scattered useful pearls from this; in available books the subject matter of today's specialities is scattered, at times in entire classics. Dr A. Sulochana has picked up the subject from all available important compendiums of Ayurveda and arranged those accurately under today's is acceptable headings. With dint of her knowledge has chapterized the subject in very unique way not seen so for in any available book, 'Description of Vandhyatwa’ (infertility) with Vandhya Yoniyāpad is also a new approach. Explanation of mode of action of nasya etc. various procedures used is praiseworthy. Inclusion of her own practical experiences in the book increases its importance particularly for novices.

Dr. A. Sulochana deserves congratulations, but the work is half done. I am sure that in very near future she will come up with its half i.e. Book ‘Prasutitantra' and serve the Ayurvedic world as well as goddess Saraswati. The book is very useful for teachers students and researches all. I wish her success in future life.
