Book Description

Foreword

It gives me immense pleasure to write a foreword to the "Anukta Dravya Vimarsh" (Sachitra Varnan) authorized by Dr. Rashmi Srivastava and Dr. Chandni Gupta. The book is facilitating various drugs used by Traditional Vaidyas showing excellent results but are not documented due to certain reasons. These drugs are known to be Anukta or Ishad Ukta drugs, which means the drugs that are either not explained or very less explained in Ayur texts but are being frequently used by Traditional Vaidyas in their day-to-day practices. The book aptly presents a modern, lucid and concise account of these drugs which are an emerging topics in the field of Dravyaguna Shastra. Aushadha (a dravya) is one of the three pillars of all the eight branches of Ayurveda. Dravyaguna is a branch which explains the properties and safe usage of treasure of Dravya especially of plant origin. But in present scenario when we explore the drugs we came to know that so many Dravyas are getting endangered now-a-days, due to various reasons. At the same time a ray of hope appears from the Traditional Vaidyas who are regularly using various single herbs in their practices since years but these drugs are not recorded in an authentic manner.

In the present book authors have made efforts to explore the Anukta dravyas as well Ishad Ukta Dravyas. The book consists of detailed description of 90 plants alongwith the probable properties (Rasa, Guna, Veerya, Vipaka and Karma) and coloured pictures of these plants. Also authors have provide list of more than 200 plants which are undocumented and need to be explored, so that these drugs are incorporated in API. This book is very helpful for all U.G., P.G. and Ph.D students, research scholars and for the teachers as it provides a vast area for research in all the fields of Ayurveda. The authors need to be congratulated for their pioneering venture and continuous hard work since 3 years. It is hoped that many more books in this area will be brought in function.
