Book Description
While publishing the first volume of this Diary I was not able to get the life history of Raisahib Munshi Ram in spite of my best efforts to do so. From information I have received since that time I have now learned that Raisahib had a great spiritual longing from his very early days. He was initiated by Huzur Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj in 1910 and after that he came to the Dera from time to time. He had true devotion in his heart and it grew to such an extent that when he went home in 1939 after retirement he could not find any peace and as a result came back to the Dera in 1942 to stay at the feet of his Master, whom he never left afterwards.
When Rai Har Narayan, Secretary to Huzur Maharaj Ji began to have indifferent health Raisahib took over his duties. These he discharged in a most efficient, honest and creditable manner. When Rai Har Narayan passed away his responsibilities became still heavier but he shouldered them in a most praiseworthy manner. He had great devotion for Huzur Maharaj Ji and Huzur also treated him in a most affectionate manner. Raisahib always accompanied Maharaj Ji on His tours even when he was not feeling well. He remained with Huzur Maharaj Ji till the end and drafted His last will and other documents. A detailed note regarding Huzur Maharaj Ji's will appears in this volume together with an account of the events connected with the partition of the country and Huzur's last illness.
Raisahib fully realised his responsibilities and the Satguru gave him strength to discharge them in a most sincere and efficient manner.
The original diary by Raisahib was kept in Urdu and has been printed as such. At the gracious instance of the present Master, Professor M.S. Bhatnagar has translated extracts from this diary into English eliminating such portions as would be of little interest to the Western mind, Mr. Joseph Leeming of Washington (USA) has carefully edited the translation and Miss Louise Hilger of Chicago (USA) has typed the manuscript. Prof. Bhatnagar has seen the book through the press and we are greatly beholden to them all for their labour of love in the service of the Master
