Book Description

About the Book
On the steps leading to a river there was a diamond. People used to frequent the Ghat for their daily bath. Everyone thought it was an ordinary stone and wiped their feet on it as they came out of the river. But a jeweller was able to recognize it as a priceless diamond.

Sri Sarada Devi used this simile to describe her life which is a mystery and which, without her grace, is impossible for us to understand. However, those who had tremendous spiritual insight and knew without a shadow of a doubt that Holy Mother was not an ordinary woman, but the Divine Mother herself.

Preface
Sri Sarada Devi was considered, even in her lifetime, a manifestation of the eternal motherhood of God. Born a century and a half ago, she has today transcended her Hindu context and emerges as a universal ideal for all humanity. Her life and teachings, and their heretofore undreamed of influence, assessed by monks and nuns of the Ramakrishna Order, eminent scholars and thinkers in various fields of human endeavour: philosophy, science, management, social science, and hagiography are presented in this book.

This commemorative volume is divided into four sections. The first section, 'Altars of Shakti,' the Divine Feminine Principle, describes the historical and philosophical context of Sri Sarada Devi's life from the most ancient Indian tradition to modern issues. The second section, 'Reified Divinity,' describes the Life and Teachings of Sri Sarada Devi in personal reminiscences and treatises of prominent as well as lesser known aspects of her personality, her mission and how she points to our own sadhana. The third section, 'Inundation of the Infinite,' deals with Sri Sarada Devi's relevance today as the progenitor and prototype of a new awakening of spiritual consciousness, and of women East and West. The fourth section, 'Evolution of a Revolution,' presents a history of the development towards a world-renaissance of an independent, Math for women in the Ramakrishna Order, an organization for social welfare and spiritual enlightenment. It explores the influence and details of the unique personalities of its founders.

We hope this book, Eternal Mother, will be a source of inspiration to the growing number of people of every country and faith. May these articles contribute to an awareness of the Eternal Mother of the universe and inspire them to participate in the mothering and responsibility for the nurturing of this world.
