Preface
The present volume contains the texts of inscriptions which have been critically edited with introduction and notes in different volumes of the journal Epigraphia Indica during my long career of over three decades in the Epigraphical Branch of the Ar chaeological Survey of India. These articles cover different dynasties like the Chutu Sakaris, Guptas, Maukharis, Early Pallavas, Vakatakas, Early and Later Kadambas, Chalukyas of Badami and Kalyana, Eastern Chalukyas, Western and Eastern Gangas, Rashtrakutas, Sendrakas, Maitrakas, Chaulukyas, Šilähäras, Paramāras, Chähamanas and Early and Later Yadavas. They are expected to throw new and welcome light on many problems relating to these dynasties and contribute to the field of epigraphical research. Of these, No's. 9 and 35 were jointly written with Shri. M.N. Katti, now Chief Epigraphist, Mysore and Dr. S. Sankaranarayanan, formerly Deputy Superintending Epigrapbist, Mysore who subsequently retired as Director, Oriental Research Institute, Tirupati, My thanks are due to them. It is hoped that the scholars working in this field will find this volume useful since it brings together at one place, all the scattered materials in the form of different articles.

The publication of this volume is entirely due to the keen interest and initiative taken by my friend and former colleague Dr. K.V. Ramesh, Director of Epigraphy, and his Superintending Epigraphist Dr. S.P. Tewari, My sincere thanks are due to them for this. I am also thankful to Shri. MJ. Sharma, Deputy Superintending Epigraphist, stationed at Delhi, for his help in bringing out this volume. And last but not least, I wish to express my appreciation and thanks to the publishers Agam Prakashan for their interest, efficiency and promptness shown in bringing out this volume.
