Book Description

About the Book
In ancient times a Brahmin in South India was not considered to have attained full knowledge and wisdom unless he would pay obeisance to the Devi Saraswati of Kashmir, who represented the power of sagacity and prudence. Since in those days was difficult to undertake a journey, long and tortuous, to Kashmir the few step towards north in the direction of Kashmir Valley would be accorded the formal certification of having attained the requisite knowledge so as to preside over the rites and rituals in a Hindu society. The true teaching and collective wisdom of Kashmiri saints and savants remained shrouded in obscuration and indistinctness.

It was Rabindra Nath Tagore who first exhibited an interest in Kashmiri poetry and literature when Mahjoor's poems translated into English were brought to the notice of the great poet. Even afterwards, there were no serious attempts made for interaction between Kashmiri writers and those of the outside world for dissemination of the knowledge and the light so uniquely found exclusive to Kashmir heritage.

No wonder, many people outside Kashmir are even now ignorant of the wise words uttered by saints like Lalla Ded and Sheikh Noor Din Noorani Walli (R.A) some 700 years ago.

This book is among a few attempts made to broadcast the message of Nund reshi, the greatest propounder of peace and harmony which Mother Kashmir has produced.
