Book Description
K. S. Venkataramani (1892-1952), novelist, short story writer and essayist in English and Tamil is one of the most renowned writers of the early decades of this century. As an upholder of the values of rural life, Venkataramani has achieved a literary greatness that is uncommon in our literatures.
His important works in English such as Paper Boats, On the Sand Dunes and Renascent India expound his philosophy of the regeneration of India. Besides, they cumulativiely present a picture of the physiognomy, environment and familiar characters of the Indian village. Another novel Murugan the Tiller is a testament of Ven kataramani's abiding faith in India's villages and his love of Sarvodaya ideals.
Venkataramani entered the world of Tamil letters as editor of Tamil Ulagu and Bharata Mani. The latter was a journal which only an idealist and a devotee of Indian culture could have produced.
N. S. Ramaswami (1918-1987), the author of this monograph, was a journalist by profession. Through his columns in various newspapers and journals as well as his books, he acquired the reputation as an authority on temples and history.
In this monograph Sri Ramaswami has brought together significant details of Venkataramani's life and works.
