Book Description

About the Book
This volume is an outcome of the seminar 'The Ramayana in Eastern India', held at the Modern Indian Languages Department of the University of Calcutta in 1980. The great Sanskrit epic, the Ramayana as composed by Valmiki, the Kaviguru of the classical Indian poetry, is unquestionably one of the greatest books of the world. Now we are having modern scholars of the Ramayana studies, on the influence and impact of the great work, seeking to find out and establish how and when the Ramayana began and took its modern shape in different regional languages in Eastern India. Here our combined effort, all working together, from different angles, will undoubtedly indicate some pathways through this volume.
