Cancer and Medicinal Plants

About the Book The brigin of Ayurveda can he traced beyond the Vedic period, i.e. about 5000 BC. The whole philosophy of Ayurveda is based on achieving, maintaining and promoting positive health. Plants have been used since ages as a source of medicine in Ayurveda, for the prevention and the treatment of various diseases including cancer.

Today cancer is a global problem. Every year a number of precious human lives arc lost due to cancer worldwide. The main modalities for treatment include chemo, surgery and radiotherapy which causes a great deal of discomfort to the cancer patient. So there is a need to develop alternative drugs. In recent years, it has been observed that herbal drugs may play immense role to prevent initiation, promotion and progression of cancer. Several drugs have been tested in various laboratories world over to prevent cancer. This is a short introductory book that discusses or introduces the cancer, its causes and treatments as well as role of plants in cancer. Medicinal Plants offer great hope regarding cancer prevention and therapy. The book "Cancer and Medicinal plants" has been written keeping in mind that basic, clinical, and applied researcher as well as students can derive benefit from it.

There are eight chapters in the book first is the introduction, Avowd is brief account of the disease , third provide an overview of the role of plants in cancer and remaining chapters deals with the five main plants that can have miraculous effect in treatment of cancer. The material is presented in a clear & concise form with proper references.

Dr. Bhavna Singh is born at Atrauli (Aligarh Dist., Uttar Pradesh) on 30/06/1971. Shc had school studies at G.G.T.C. Bulandshahr (UT.) and passed B.A.M.S. in 1993 from Rishikul State P.O. Ayurvedic College, Haridwar (U.K.) in First Class. She completed her M.D. (Ay.) in Dravyaguna from National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur. She did Ph.D. (Ay.) from Dev Samskriti Vishva Vidhyalya, Haridwar. The author worked as Ayurveda expert in TKDL Project at NISCAIR. Delhi. She worked as SRF in ICMR. New Delhi. She presented several clinical and scientific papers at National seminars. She had published one book i.e: Fundamental Dravyaguna (Basic Concepts of Dravyaguna & General Pharmacology) and more than fifteen publications in standard journal.
