Convocation Addresses (Golden Jubilee Edition)

Keynote speakers of great eminence have great the University of Burdwan at its different convocations in the past fifty years. In this Golden Jubliee year we have attempted to collect the available texts of their speeches in a single volume as the golden jubilee Edition. There are two related wishes behind the inception of this effort.

This collection brings together for the first time a galaxy of luminaries in the act of expressing their vital ideas. These thoughts are both about the condition of society in their times and the way a coherent and snsightful education system can fundamentally change the course of that society for the better. It also chrinicles the way their ideas have seen fruition, both in the way education policy has changed and evolved continously and the way in which successive generations of students have influenced society. The University of Burdwan has always tried to follow the path these visionaries charted out in their speeches.

This volume present a collection of speeches by a uniquely important group of thinkers who linked education to the transformation of the society and the nation. The University of Burdwan is a living proof of how such politics can be implemented practically.

It gives me immense pleasure to introduce this volume which records a priceless history of eminent person who have been actively associated in the achievement of excellence the University enjoys at present. Their thoughts remain a source of inspiration to us all so that we continue to follow in the footsteps of these great men towards an even more glories future. I congratulate the noble endeavour of my colleagues in bringing out this volume in a decent manner.
