About the Author

Prof. Dr. S.V Chittibabu is easily one of the eminent educationists of our time. His is a career of notable achievements in the domain of education. He rose by stages to become the Director of Collegiate Education in 1974. His path-breaking efforts in respect of the planned expansion, guided growth and innovative development of both school and collegiate education were commendable, marked, as they were, by his dynamic professionalism and rejuvenating devotion and unflagging zeal.

Deservedly he got appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Madurai University (renamed Madurai Kamaraj University) in 1975. During his tenure of office he ushered in many pace-setting reforms, introduced innovative academic courses, set up Schools of Academic Studies and boldly, brought in the semester system and the internal assessment scheme. He was the first Vice-Chancellor to introduce the Open University Programme in the distance education mode in the University and this was later adopted as a model by other universities of Tamilnadu.

In Prof. Dr. S.V.Chittibabu's administrative career the crowning glory of success and satisfaction was his Vice-chancellorship of Annamalai University (1980-1986). He is an impressive speaker both in English and Tamil. His speeches and Convocation Addresses are legion. He has contributed quite a few articles and seminar papers on education, politics, culture and social issues and among his writings "Sindanai Sigarangal" in Tamil is noteworthy. He is a creative thinker with a positive outlook and is a humanist to the core with passion and compassion - passion for sweetness and light and compassion for the underprivileged and the deprived.
