Book Description

About the Book
Written in 1961, In And Around The Marketplace (Haate Bajaare) tells the story of Sadashiv, an idealistic doctor who decides to spend his retirement years healing the poor in a small town in Bihar. He takes his mobile treatment centre to bazaars and markets and mixes with his rustic patients as only a true friend can. As Sadashiv goes about his labour of love, we meet an astonishing gallery of characters, each sketched in vivid tones. The good, the bad, the ugly they are all there in this story, and seen through the altruistic Sadashiv's clear-eyed humanism, they offer a picture of India as it was in the first few years after independence.
