The Presidents Of SGPC (In The Service of The Sikh Panth)

Preface Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar is a unique institution established by the Sikh Panth to propagate the ideals of Sikh Gurus. The institution has become a mark of triumph over the challenges and struggles that the Sikh nation has been facing through past and present. In order to set aside the Brahmanical grip of Mahants or Udasis over the management of Gurdwaras, this institution was founded during the second decade of the twentieth century. Its worthy leaders representing the highly genius state of the whole Sikh Nation had given selfless dedication towards its establishment. In human history, this sole institution was evolved on the uniquely Guru-guided modern democratic structure based on the ideology of Guru- Granth and Guru-Panth. During its century-old history, the Committee has gone through numerous ups and downs. Nevertheless, a very peculiar and unique relation has remained between Shiromani Akali Dal and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee -the two organs manifesting the Sikh ethos and identity. This unique set-up has given a new definition to Sikh politics and Sikh way of life; a new definition of Sikh Spirit of Sovereignty.
