About the Book

Ramdhari Singh Dinkar (b. 1908-1974) is considered one of the most important modern Hindi writers. A progressive and humanist poet, he chose to approach history and reality directly and his verse combines oratorical vigour with declamatory diction. He also wrote on social and political satires aimed at socio-economic inequalities and exploitation of the underprivileged.

Dinkar’s first published poetical work was Vijay Sandesh in 1928. A spate of books followed including Renuka (1935), Kurukshetra (1946), Mirch Ka Mazaa (1951), Rasmirathi (1952), Dilli (1954), and Urvasi (1961). His works have been anthologised in several volumes. His major prose works include Mitti Ki Or (1964), Ardhnarishwar (1952), Meri Yatreyen (1971) and Adhunik Bodh (1973).

About the Author

Arun Kumar Sinha has been a professor of English, teaching Literature for decades (1961-2000). He has worked on Dylan Thomas, Mark Twain and co-authored with Kumar Vikram, T.S. Eliot: An Intensive Study of Selected Poems.

Kumar Vikram, is a post-graduate in English Literature from University of Delhi. A bilingual poet in English and Hindi, he has also translated poems of some of the modern Hindi poets. He is presently with the National Book Trust, New Delhi.
