May I always remember the son of Śacī, the merciful Lord, who explained the secret of scriptures, which was unknown to previous scholars, the tattva hidden in the śrutis, composed of prema of ten types.

-Śrī-Gaurānga-lilā-Smaraņa-Mangala-Stotram (Verse 74)

Bhaktyā ye vai sakala-samaye gaura-gāthām imāṁ no gāyanty uccair vigalita-hụdaḥ gaura-tīrthe viseșān/ teşāṁ tūrņaṁ dvija-kula-maṇiḥ kṣşņa-caitanya-candrah premāveśaṁ yugala-bhajane yacchati prāņa-bandhuḥ ||

The moon of Krsna Caitanya, the friend of our life airs, the jewel of the twice born, quickly gives absorption in prema for the divine couple to the special devotees endowed with melted hearts, who loudly and constantly sing with devotion the glories of Gaura at Gaurānga's tīrtha.

-Śrī-Gaurānga-līlā-Smaraņa-Mangala-Stotram (Verse 102)

About the Author

Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Thākura (1838-1914) is a prominent ācārya in Gaudīya-vaisnava sampradāya. He was a pioneering spiritual leader, a householder, a magistrate working in colonial India under the British rule, a prolific preacher, writer, and poet. He wrote volumes of books reintroducing the pure teachings of Lord Caitanya at a time when those teachings had practically become lost. He composed hundreds of devotional songs glorifying Krsna to uplift the consciousness of the suffering people of this world. He corresponded with philosophers, theologians, leaders, scholars, and professors of his time and sent books, including The Life and Precepts of Lord Chaitanya, to university libraries in foreign countries, planting the seeds for a worldwide movement of Krishna consciousness. Bhaktivinoda Thākura discovered and excavated the birthplace of Lord Caitanya. Along with his devoted wife, Bhagavati Devī, he raised ten children, including the illustrious Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvati Thākura, who would become a great spiritual leader in his own time and the spiritual master of ISKCON's founder-ācārya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda.
