Book Description

Foreword
This edition of the Uttaragita is published as No. 3 of the Post-graduate and Research Department Series of the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute. The Uttaragita, though small in size, forms an important constituent of the group of Gitas ' which may be called Krsna -Gitas (where Krsna is the teacher and Arjuna is the pupil). The Uttaragita which is supposed to be commented upon by Gaudapada presumably is a supplement to the Bhagavadgita and deals more prominently with Yoga, Papaya.ma etc.. Mrs. Shilavati Oka who has made a special study of the “Gita " literature in Sanskrit, has edited this Uttaragita after collating the available Mss. material, and has given also an English translation. This edition may be said to be the first properly edited one made available to the public. In the Introduction Mrs. Oka deals briefly with various problems. It is hoped that this edition would create interest in the reader to take a comparative view of the Krsna-Gitas.
