Preface Just as there are different types of folk dances and folk songs throughout the kingdom of Nepal according to the specific traditions, cultural customs and climate of the three geographical regions of the Terai, middle hills, and mountainous regions of Nepal, in the same way different types of folk stories can also be discovered. Folk stories are also an integral part of culture and nationality. Throughout the world, big nations have explored, collected and preserved their own country's folk stories. Nepal's folk tales and mythological stories are also very original, interesting and entertaining. However, no one has been able to undertake the required search for, and collection of, these folk tales. By exposure to the Nepali arts, gifts, crafts and artisans, the world can know about Nepal and Nepali culture. In this way, we must also place our folk tales in front of the world. It is not that great, interesting, and original folk tales are not found in Nepal, however, there is one thing that is regretful. For the last ten or twelve years I have been searching and collecting these folk tales, and I have come to know our ancient, beautiful, and popular folk tales are quickly going extinct. There is knowledge of only the titles of famous and prominent folk tales, and it is rare to find someone who can recite these tales.
