Foreword Kural is mostly referred to with the prefix, Thiru indicating its lofty nature and sublimity of ideals! It is really a code of moral conduct and in this aspect is comparable with Bible, Quran and Vedas - but the basic difference is that it is a secular treatise while others are based on religion hyphen. Thirukkural has been translated like Bible into various languages of the world and is read and praised by one and all. As early as in 18th century with the advent of Europeans in Tamilnadu, the foreign scholars and Missionaries had introduced Thirukkural to the Western world.
