The Medicinal Plants Division of the Indian Council of Medical Research took initiatives fie developing Quality Standards of Modicmal Plants for more widely used raw materials involving laboratories of reputed institutes in the country to gente requisite data as per prescribed format for preparing monographs. Each monograph is titled with beamical nomenclature and incorporates diagnostic macro- and micmscopic features, phytochemical constituents, identification by chromatographic fingerprints (TLC GLCHPLC/HPTLCA quantitative determination of the phytochemical marker using reference marker compound, information of pharmacological, clinical toxicological aspects, dose, adulterants sublimites ele.

The pre 17% volume in the series of almady published 16 columes contains quality standards of 11 plants. The present publication is an outcome of the ICM programme under which work was camed out at Captais Srinivasa Murthy Regional Ayurveda Drug Development Institute, for Ayurveda, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Centre for Medicinal Plants Research, Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal, Kerala and Intine of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, Maharashers.

It is hoped that the current volume like the previous vuhimes will also be of interest to the herbal drug industry, pharmaceutical and Ayurvedic academic research institutes, practitioners of the Indigenous systems of medicine and health professional including regulatory authorities.
