Book Description

Foreword
The year that brought independence in India, shall always be remembered as the year of partition by the people of Punjab. For the Sikhs, it will continue to be called the year of dismemberment, when half of their population was pushed out of their hearths and homes and colonized lands. Janam Asthan (Nankana Sahib) - the birth place of the preceptor of Sikhism and about 200 odd other historic Sikh shrines were left in Pakistan. These shrines now exist in Pakistan as basic to the pilgrim tourist industry of that country and not held in trust for the adherents of Sikhism as their cherished heritage. This shock of dispossession was accompanied by mass massacre of innocent, men, women and children, accompanied by loot, rapine and abductions of young women and children. People ran for life from west to east and east to west in search of shelter with fear and awe writ large on their faces.
