Made up of the more interesting papers of the author, the volume addresses itself to interpreting some of the complicated problems of the Sanskrit literature of the Jainas. Besides shedding fresh light on quite a few issues which compels revision of earlies views thereon, it deals with unknown or little known texts. The treatment of the subject is thorough and exhaustive. The studies on Mandana, Padmasundara and Samaya sundara are distinguished by an exceptional richness of details. Written in chaste and forceful language, the volume makes a rewarding study.

Born at Kharwan (Haryana), Dr. Satya Vrat took his M.A. degree from the Punjab University, with high First class marks. After a short stint at the prestigious D.A.V. College, Amritsar, he joined the Rajasthan Education Service in 1954. His perceptive dissertation on the Jaina Sanskrit Maha kavyas earned him the Ph. D. degree from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.
