Book Description

Introduction
Hindu culture is perpetual, eternal and refreshingly new as well. Being the oldest and most unique culture, there are various factors which make it so wonderful and ever-lasting. One of these factors is our Hindu family system. In a Hindu family fold, the material needs are routinely fulfilled and mutual bonding gets stronger in the family environ. Here, one steadily imbibes ethical values and social etiquettes and develops a moral sense of reverence towards all that is worthy of veneration. Joint family system, traditionally, has been the mainstay of Hindu way of life, which enables one to acquire good habits and skills, very naturally, to lead a harmonious life. It teaches one to develop a cultured attitude and sense of care, cordiality and understanding. Likewise, one learns to distinguish between 'good' and the 'evil'. Accordingly, by acquiring such knowledge one becomes a perfect individual well equipped to provide strength and substance to both the society and nation.

However, with passage of time and in the wave of modernization, the traditional role of 'family' which was so significant in the past, in infusing values of harmony and righteousness, has become weaker and less effective. Our modern education system, sadly, is lacking the visionary and holistic approach that characterised our ancient system. As against ancient system of education which was a great source earning imparting moral and ethical values to the people, the present system, basically, does not place faith in such values and their crucial role in the all-round growth of a human being. Rather, it adopts a hostile approach towards these considerations. Consequently, it has, ominously, demolished one's faith in ethical values and natal code of conduct. That is why, in the present milieu, one finds a large number of educated people, who, despite being well aware of dharma and its essence, like Duryodhana of Mahabharata, are not inclined to follow it. Similarly, they also know what is adharma or unethical and unfair, but cannot abstain from it. It only shows their lack of moral strength and conviction as depicted in the following shloka :-

As a result, such perceptions have led to sharp increase in frustration and suicidal tendencies among people particularly youth.
