Foreword
It gives me immense pleasure to write foreword for the book "Pathya Vivechana" by Dr Mannat Marwaha and Dr. Deepa Chugh. It includes diet chart for general diseases, which acts as a supportive management along with basic medication.

Very few books are available on this extremely important subject of Pathya [diet]. The work of Dr Mannat Marwaha and Dr. Deepa Chugh is appreciable as they focused on the concepts of Ayurveda along with its practical approach towards dietary management.

I appreciate their understanding towards the subject and efforts to bring it in the form of book. Authors deserve congratulations. I hope and wish that he will continue such efforts to serve humanity. This book is useful for physicians, scholars, dieticians and nursing staff and great blessing to society. I wish him success in future and life.

Preface
A dietary approach to a patient should be delt with asking his/her dietetic history. Dietetic cause of a disease should be first noted, considered and explained as Apathya to the patient. Cereals, pulses, millets, vegetables, fruits, spices available locally should be procured from local market and used. Kalpanas (formulations) like decoctions, Yusha (soups), Peya (drinks), Manda (rice water), Vilepi and Yavagu (gruels) should be encouraged as they forms the base for drug delivery system through food. Nutraceutical product is a food or fortified food product that not only supplements the diet but also assists in treating or preventing diseases. The concept of nutraceutical is already in ayurveda. These diet charts includes raw food items along with herb additions to food items by making their Kalpanas. Contraindications, amount and time to take meal are also explained.

Today is the need to develop a branch for ayurvedic diet for various diseases. These can be included in hospital diet. Patient should be educated for the benefits of these diets for prevention and management of diseases especially non communicable diseases. Balanced Agni plays an important role in preventing diseases.

All the patients I had encountered were having problems with Agni. Managing diet, advice on hygiene and Yogic exercises and providing simple education to patients for their disease dose wonders. Diet charts for twenty five common diseases like hypertension, diabetes mellitus, anemia, peptic ulcer disease, constipation, migraine, jaundice, IBS, migraine, renal calculi, bleeding disorders, psoriasis, eczema, diarrhoea, anorexia, asthma, UTI, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, weight loss, gluten free diet, PCOD, erectile disfunction are prepared.
