The monograph introduces the Vedic Deities and critically examines their etimological meaning. It presents the comparative views of the status and duties of the Deities. Finally an effort is made to explain the importance and meaning as explained by Sri Aurobindo. The author has tried to present the views of Sri Aurobindo on the Vedic Deities such as Agni, Varuna, Visnu etc..
About the Author:
Born in 1928 Prof. Mukherji ha a distinguished academic record all through his career. A retired Professor of Sanskrit, Jadavpur University, a former Vice-Chancellor of Universities of Burdwan and Rabindra Bharat, Calcutta, a past President of the Association of Indian Universities, a past general president of A.I.O.C., Pro. Mukherji is presently the chancellor of Tirupati Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth and Loka Manya Bala Gangdhara Tilak Research Professor of Indology, Asiatic Society, Calcutta.
Prof. Mukherji has to his credit a number of articles and books like 'Literary criticism in Ancient India, and has won many laurels including Honoris Causa Doctorate Degrees and the President's Certificate of Honour.
