Book Description

Preface

Acupuncture is a popular treatment methodology practised in many countries. Research into acupuncture as a medical treatment has grown exponentially in the past 20 years, increasing at twice the rate of research into conventional biomedicine. During this period, over 10,000 studies were conducted in 60 countries, including hundreds of meta-analyses summarizing the results of thousands of human and animal studies. A wide variety of clinical areas have been studied, including pain, cancer, pregnancy, stroke, mood disorders, sleep disorders, and inflammation.

There is promising scientific evidence to support the use of acupuncture for chronic pain conditions, such as arthritis and headaches, and limited support for neck pain. Acupuncture generally is safe when administered using clean needles, either disposable or sterilised. Several years ago, the World Health Organisation (WHO) published an official report listing 21 symptoms, conditions, and diseases shown in controlled trials to be treated effectively by Acupuncture.

All acupuncture doctors and students interested in studying acupuncture should know the details of the disease before treating the patient. I am pleased to write this book, "Clinical Practice in Acupuncture," based on my experience gained over a decade in treating a large number of patients in my "Kumaran's Health Centre" and during my service in "Ramakrishna Mission Trust Hospital, Chennai".

In this book, I have mentioned the details of diseases related to our organs and systems, with causes and symptoms, and various treatment methods to cure the diseases. Details of other acupuncture treatment methods like Ear Acupuncture, Wrist and Ankle Acupuncture, Extraordinary Meridian Acupuncture, 36-Extra Points, ECIWO, Scalp Acupuncture, Reflexology and Spinal Cord are covered in this book to give exposer to the readers in holistic manner.

I express my deep sense of gratitude to Dr. Sabir Abdullah. MD. (Acu), President ATAMA for his encouragement to write this book and his kind permission to reproduce the Meridian images for this book from ATAMA published book "Reiki acupuncture by Prof.Dr.Abdulla Sehu,"

My sincere thanks to my family for their support, especially hearty thanks to my daughter Dr.S.Mangayarkarasi. BE. MS. MD(Acu). Ph.D (Acu) for her valuable guidance and encouragement to write this book. I express my sincere thanks to Madam Prof. Dr.V. Angayarkanni, MSc. MD(Acu). Ph.D (Acu), my Co-Director in Kumaran's Health Centre, for her encouragement and guidance to write this book.
