Foreword Several books have been written about the Sikhs in Canada but this presents itself with a difference. It is more a biographical account of the arrival and development of the Sikhs in Canada rather than a historical document - thought it can easily be accepted as such. It presents a story of a people as they endeavoured to settle down in a land thousands of kilometres away from their native land and their loved ones. It depicts their struggle, their suffering and their eventual triumph over the harsh environs of Canadianism and the seemingly insurmountable problems of day to day living. The elements faced by them, to put it mildly, were hostile and threatening. But they bravely took the challenge and excelled against all odds.
