Back of the Book
The Gurmat Studies series aims to spark interest in young Sikhs and to boost their knowledge of a glorious Sikh heritage and history. It consists of eight books that have been lovingly developed by a team of experienced Khalsa School teachers in California, USA. The curriculum strives to connect youth to Sikh in a contemporary teaching environment with materials centered on core Sikh principles.

This series is a valuable addition to each family's collection of Sikh literature.

Preface
A team of dedicated Northern California Khalsa School teachers and youth created the Gurmat Studies series to familiarize children with core Sikh principles exemplified by our Guru Sahiban and Sikhs. The goal is to provide inspiration to youth facing the challenge of living a Gursikh life in present-day society. Young people often become distanced from Sikhi because of insecurities developed from systematic racism and discrimination - both obvious and subtle in the media, school, and workplace. The curriculum helps to overcome insecurities because it aims to instill youth with a core Sikh spirit of 'Charhdi Kala'. This blissful state of mind allows for one to face hardships without submitting to social pressures or negative emotions such as fear or anger. The Gurmat Studies series consists of eight books that are targeted for different age groups.

Books 1 and 2 briefly introduce the basics of Sikhi for pre-school to elementary level students. Gur Mantar, Mool Mantar, basic Gurdwara etiquette are described in simple language, and with appealing artwork and coloring activities. Concise Sakhis of each Guru Sahib are paired with interactive lessons of basic principles and practices, such as Kirt Karni, Naam Japna, and Vand Ke Chhakna. Book 2 includes fill-in-the-blank questions, quizzes, and word searches to help students retain the details of the Sakhis and key facts. Books 3 to 6 introduce pre-teen to adolescent readers to Guru Sahiban and prominent Sikh figures primarily through Sakhis. Captivating, detailed accounts from Sikh history encourage readers to live a meaningful life through Seva, Simran, and Miri- Piri. Each Sakhi concludes with a key Gurmat message that clearly states the purpose of the lesson and correlates it to the present day world.

The last two books, 7 and 8, go into a deeper analysis of integral aspects of a Sikh's mindset and daily spiritual life, reiterating the message of Gurbani with teenaged students. These books also cover the extensive history of the Sikh Nation and how core Sikh values empowered Sikhs to survive in the face of much adversity.

Our intent in developing this series was to provide authentic Gurmat and Sikh History information in an 'easy to read', 'easy to understand' format. The contents of the series have undergone thorough review and editing by educationists, school counselors, a child development specialist, University scholars, and Gursikhs representing a broad array of Sikh organizations. We are thankful to Singh Brothers for making this widely used curriculum available to the general public for the first time through their design, artwork, and publishing.
