Book Description
Süradāsa was one of the greatest bhakta poets of medieval times. Blind by birth, he was a versatile genius who was like a many faceted gem. The Surasagara, his magnum opus is considered one of the greatest works on devotional literature in Hindi. He was a great poet, a great singer and a great artist. And above all, a great human being. However a fully complete portrait of the poet in colours true to history has not reached us so far.
K.C. Sharma born 1917 at Gadhi Brahmnana, Dist. Sonipat (Haryana); B.A. (Hons.), M.A., Ph.D. Dr. Sharma worked as Professor of Hindi and Principal in various Post-graduate Colleges affiliated to Delhi, Panjab and Kurukshetra Universities for about four decades. Retired Principal as (H.E.S.I) from Govt/University College, Kurukshetra. He has authored about a dozen books in Hindi, English and Sanskrit pub lished by reputed publishers in India. The book entitled 'Keshav Das Jeevani, Kala aur Krititva' was awarded 1st prize for being the best work on criticism by the Panjab Govt.
There are many books on Sûradāsa in which his biographical studies have been done in varied shades and his poetry evaluated form different angles. A careful perusal of all these works shows, however, that a real Süradāsa a Süradāsa portrayed in colours true to history, does not stand before us, and many an intricate problem relating to his life and work has not been taken care of adequately in these works. Hence this monograph.
