Book Description

Introduction
The Sikh Student's Federation was founded in 1943. It played a remarkable role in Sikh politics for several years. It provided nursery for the Shriomani Akali Dal, it worked for Sikh national agenda and it gave intellectual lead to the Sikh political leadership. It ushered on era of missionary activities among the Sikh youth in general and Sikh students in particular.

Sikh Students' Federation maintained its independent entity till 1958-59. Until then it was a sister organisation of the Shiromani Akali Dal and Bir Khalsa Dal but since 1959 its graph began its downwards journey.

In 1978 Bhai Amrik Singh became the chief of the Federation. During his times the Federation was not only resurrected but it also reached heights of its glory. This period was the most tumultuous period in the modern Sikh history. In spite of massacres, killings, tortures, arrests and persecution by other means, thousands of the Sikh students joined this organisation with a chivalrous spirit. Invasion of Darbar Sahib by the Indian army (4 June 1984) and the chain of events following it added several Sikh Student martyrs to the Sikh history.

The history of this organisation was so for, unknown to a very large number of scholars. It goes to the credit of Dr. Jasbir Singh that he recorded the precious history of this organisation in bok form. Dr. Jasbir Singh is a writer of repute with many works to his credit, inculding History of the Sikhs of Jammu & Kashmir, the Sikh Shrines of Jammu & and Kashmir, Sikh Chintan etc. Dr. Jasbir Singh is a good writer, a hard worker and a sincere person. His attempt at recording the history of the Sikh Students Federation earned him great appreciations from the students of history and all others who are interested in learning something about this organisation.

I have based this work mainly on Dr Jasbir Simgh Sarna's book Baaznama but this is not pale translation of the book. I hope the readers shall welcome this work. Dr Jasbir Singh had dedicated his book Baaznama to Bhai Amrik Singh; I have dedicated this book to Dr Harjinder Singh Dilgeer for his great contribution to the Sikh history.
