Nepal, the motherland of Lord Sakyamuni Buddha, is a country where Buddhism is being practised since its origin without any interruption, A study on Buddhism in Nepal may throw light on the impact of Buddhist thought in the socio cultural development, Buddhist civilization etc. in Nepal and its contribution to the Buddhist Studies. In this field, scholarly endeavour is needed. The present work of Mr. Naresh Man Bajracharya partially fulfils the need of study on the historical development of Buddhism in Nepal in a particular period i.e. 465 B.C. to 1199 A.D. Based upon a wide range of sources like inscriptions, genealogies, Chinese and Tibetan sources, the author has put efforts to sketch the historical development of Buddhism in Nepal during the Kirāt and Lichhavi period, the prominent Viharas in Nepal, the development of Buddhist sects in Nepal, Nepalese Buddhist scholars and their contributions and Tibetan Buddhist scholars who visited Nepal as a centre of Buddhist learning.

About the Authors
Mr. Naresh Man Bajracharya, a native of Nepal has completed his M. A., M. Phil., and Ph. D. in Buddhist Studies from the Dept. of Buddhist Studies, University of Delhi, At present he is a lecturer in the department of Buddhist Philosophy in Balmeeki Vidyapeeth, Kathmandu, the Mahendra Sanskrit University, Nepal. He had worked as an instructor of Buddhist Ritualistic Training in the same University. He is also associated with Buddhist organizations in Nepal and India.

Mr. Naresh Man Bajracharya has participated and presented papers in National and International seminars held in Nepal and India. He has published research articles on Buddhist Studies and four books on Buddhist ritualistic practices.
