Book Description

From the Back of the Book:

Is god Dead? Are religion and faith merely opiates of the Masses? Till about four hundred years Ago, belief in divine power dominated world thought. With developments in science and increasing philosophical skepticism, man appeared to lose faith in god. But science itself has proved to be a false god, leaving in its wake a disillusioned and despondent mankind.

In Code Name God, Mani Bhaumik one of the pioneers of the laser technology that made the corrective eye surgery LASIK possible, demonstrates how both spirituality and science are essential for human beings and how one can strike a perfect balance between the tow. The author, who as a youngster lived in Mahatma Gandhi's camp, details his incredible rags-to-riches journey and his equally remarkable search for meaning in life, which make for a motivational saga as he strives to achieve the golden mean between science and spirituality.

Enriching and inspirational, Code Name God provides a simple and easy-to-understand scientific approach to faith and God-realization.

About the Author:

Born on a mud floor in Bengal into the vortex of the Struggle for Indian Independence, Dr. Bhaumik survived colonial oppression, cyclone, epidemic, and famine to earn a ph. D in physics from India's IIT and a Sloane Foundation fellowship for postdoctoral work at UCLA. Later he achieved international recognition and success as a co-inventor of the laser technology that made LASIK eye surgery possible.

His contributions to science merited election as a fellow to the American Physical Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, while his successes won him a spot on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Eventually he discovered that happiness is an inside job and immersed himself in Study of the relationship between science and spiritually and the integration of mind and matter. He has published over fifty papers in Professional journals and maintains a lively correspondence with other physicists around the world.

He is reversed in his native Bengal, where he launched and overseas the Mani Bhaumik Educational foundation, providing full scholarships for the study of science and medicine to sixty-seven underprivileged young men and women. A biography entitled Mani the Jewel has been a consistent bestseller in his native Bengal Dr. Bhaumik's alma mater, IIT, has awarded him an honorary D. Sc. Degree for lifetime academic achievement.

He lives in Southern California.
