Gandhian Theory And Practice Of Labour Movement

In the recent years there has been a great emphasis on the socio economic dimensions of historical research. Varied attempts have been made to explore the comparatively neglected facets of the socio economic past. Therefore in the process, research on the labour movements in the country has also caught momentum. To join this endeavour, an attempt has been made to study the power pact role played by Gandhiji in the development that took place in the Indian trade union circles in the pre-independence era. This book is a humble endeavour of my study which poses a question on Gandhiji as a of Labour movement.

The impact of the industrial revolution in England was also felt in India. Industrial labour class was the sprouts of Industrial growth. Mill owners and mill workers with divergent interests endeavoured to reach their cardinal points. In their squabble; labourers lacked resources, power, co-ordination and a leader. Leadership quality was lacking amongst them and therefore they were given directions and momentum from people who did not belong to this class but were social workers and had full empathy for this exploited strata. Thus the intrest of Gandhiji towards the labour class made him their leader and till date he is most widely reminiscence leaders of this class. As a mass communicator he reached and influenced more people than any other leader. He was not only a political leader but touched various corners of human life.
