Book Description
Since trade and industry are interrelated, the author has identified some potential areas of Joint venture for the foreign investors including the Indian investors in the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal and has also referred to the policy and strategy related to foreign investment in Nepal.
This book will be useful not only to the students, research scholars, businessmen and investors but also to the policy-makers of both countries.
His dozens of articles on Trade, Industry, Commerce and other aspects of Nepalese economy have been published in the national dailies and other economic Journals of Nepal. He is a regular contributor of talks to Radio Nepal and has contributed literary talks to the Nepali Programme of External Services Division, All India Radio, New Delhi (India). Presently he is associated with Nepal Industrial Development Corporation (NIDC), Kathmandu.
The present work by Mr Kishor Dahal makes interesting reading and many of the suggestions he has made are relevant to the present situation. Hence, I would not hesitate to recom mend this piece of research to students of trade and all others interested in Nepal's economic progress.
Since Nepal's trade with India has a significant impact on her economic development, I have highlighted all the important aspects of Indo-Nepal trade and have given some concrete suggestions and an action plan to promote and strengthen trade relations between these two countries.
Since trade and industry are interrelated to each other and promotion of trade of a country mostly depends on the level of industrialization of that country, I have identified some poten tial areas of joint venture and have also dwelt upon the policy and strategy related to foreign investment in Nepal.
The first chapter of this book gives a picture of Nepal's foreign trade including her trade with India and also deals with the balance of trade of Nepal with India and the factors res ponsible for Nepal's balance of trade position with India deteriorating. The second chapter analyses various measures: taken by HMG/Nepal in order to diversify her trade with countries other than India and its impact on Indo-Nepal trade. The third chapter provides information regarding prospects of trade expansion between these two countries. This chapter also provides information regarding potential areas of joint venture as well as policy, strategy and facilities related to foreign investment in Nepal. The fourth chapter critically examines Nepal-India trade and transit treaties from 1923 till now from the standpoint of promotion and diversification of Nepal's foreign trade. The fifth chapter discusses the Bangkok Agree ment and its possible impact on Indo-Nepal trade if Nepal joins the agreement.
