Book Description
Madhurachenna (1903 - 1953), is a confluence of two names, viz., Madanna and Chennamallappa - which Chennamallappa of Halasangi (Bijapur Disctrict) chose as his nom de plume. And it releases sweet poetic "vibes" when one utters it.
"Madhurachenna" was an untutored genius, a many splendoured one at that. He was a mystical poet, a publicist of Kannada folk lore, a self-taught linguist, a researcher, a cultural activist, a social reformer a God-seeker above all, who has left behind a wonderous treasure - trove of a three-part autobiography.
Dr. Gurulinga S. Kapse, the author of this monograph is a familiar name in the Kannada Literary world. He has risen from the ranks, as it were - beginning his career as a school teacher and ending up as Professor of Kannada in Karnataka University. He was the Chairman of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy.
The translator of this monograph, G.B. Sajjan got his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Karnataka University, Dharwad, in 1953 and 1955 respectively, specializing in English Language and Literature and authored a book on Literary Criticism and a few translations from Kannada to English, viz. Mahadevi, Selected Vachanas of Siddharameshwara, Reflections on the Divine.
