Introduction

Meditation is not a part-time duty or a ritual to be practised everyday for a certain length of time. We have to be vigilant and develop a vision where in we are able to be in a meditative poise from every small or big experience that we go through in our daily life. This can be achieved if we are able to convert every experience into wisdom by learning from that experience. Normally, an average person gathers impression from each experience and thereby increases the load of these impressions on his mind in the form of good or bad memories.

In 'Meditation Through Parables,' an attempt is made to develop a faculty of light by working in the world lightly, so that each experience becomes the light of wisdom, and no more a load of going through good or bad experiences.

Each parable is selected from various spiritual literatures and recasted to convert the experience into wisdom. Wherever possible, sources are mentioned.

If we are able to read at random any parable at the beginning of the day and ruminate over it throughout the day, it will become an ideal start with a very healthy breakfast, to take up the loads of the day.

As with my other books, Saraswati Amma (now Swami Maunananda) has been the instrument who compelled me to work on it. The beautiful drawings for the parables were very intelligently and beautifully drawn by Brni. Nivedita Chaitanya of Australia who was a student of the Xth Vedanta Course at Sandeepany, Mumbai. My loving appreciation for both of them. May Lord Krishna bless them with a long and healthy life, and continue to express through them as ever.

The editorial skill of Shri. Vishwarnitra Puri is fully reflected as in all my earlier publications. He is a God-sent gift to me, who is a rare combination of dedication and skill.

Surnati (Lakshmi) has done a great job of composing this book tirelessly, not only as a mechanical undertaking but as an intelligent seeker who has taken care of all the small details like spellings, transliteration, sanskrit composition etc .. Her devotion to the work and ultimately to spiritual pursuit is unparallel. I will be underestimating her devotion by expressing thanks for her invaluable contribution.

Preface

We go in search of peace and for that alone, we go with a hope to be happy. We try our best to 'change places to gain happiness. We try our best to wait for a change in time so that we can be happy and we also try our best to change the things and beings around us so that we should be happy. Alas! we forget to note that wherever we go, whenever we go and in whichever situation we go, "There we are!"

This "I" factor is the source of all that we have been searching or, Unfortunately, it was never focussed as an important parameter ) work upon. The perception of the world by this'!' depends on le quality of the mind which this 'I' has cultivated and nurtured; and ultimately developed, through a process of removal of "mayopiya" of our 'I' (not the myopia of ' eye').

The surgery of this'!' is being presented in this book of Meditation Through Parables". After this surgery is complete, it is certain that we will rediscover our original vision and be able to see thee inherent Divinity in and through our every experience. When we are able to discover Him and His expression in every experience, we are free from the disease of "mayopiya" i.e. discover that this whole world is nothing but a play of maya of the Lord and we are mere pawns in His game.

We are pleased to publish this wonderful work and hope that t will spread happiness everywhere.
