Book Description

Foreword

I had a very pleasant experience to go through the text compiled by Dr. Chinmaya Bhabani Prasad, particularly, on "The fourth chapter in the sarirasthana of Susruta-samhita namely garbha-vyakarana-satrira".

Such an English edition was highly essential for the newly entrants to Ayurvedic course as this chapter has been prescribed as a text book (Ayurvedarsagrantheldhyayana-kramalj) in the First year BAMS course by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), New Delhi. Dr Chinmaya, my affectionate son, has completely followed my guidelines to express the intricacies of Sanskrit based Ayurvedic terms into English. Translating Sanskrit into English or other languages is a difficult imposition. Many Universities adopt the medium of teaching in English, thus Dr. Chinmaya made an effort to elucidate the text into comprehensible English language by elaborating the difficult colloquies of Sanskrit based Ayurvedic terms. The present portion of Sugrutasarithita is highly appreciable as it has been strictly followed a comparative study of Ayurvedic views interpreted with modern Medicine being well presented in classical English. The present manuscript is definitely praiseworthy, for bringing out such a rare edition, and I hope, the text will be highly appreciated by the erudite readers. In this edition, Dr Chinmaya has meticulously endeavoured to justify the genuineness of Ayurvedic fundamentals and doctrines by corelating the thoughts with Modern Medical Science. This book will undoubtedly be helpful to a beginner as a preliminary stepping stone towards the study of subsequent higher texts in Ayurveda. I feel glorious that Chowkhamba Krishnadas Academy, Varanasi (UP) have consented to publish and circulate this compilation for appeasing the aspiration of students in the Ayurvedic discipline abroad. I am of firm belief that the present edition will be of enormous necessity and constant source of impetus knowledge to the students admitted to Ayurvedic course as well as help appeasing the aspirations of the general readers. I wish the compendium all success.
