Book Description

From the Jacket:

This book is an enlarged edition of the earlier one "Temple Culture" which was a resounding success. It is addressed to the vast number of educated Indians within and outside of this great subcontinent, most of whom are ignorant of the true nature of worship in the temples.

In its chequered history, Hinduism now is at the crossroads. It is important that we as Hindus understand our roots. Our history is so very intimately rooted in our temples, spread along the length and breadth of India from high peaks of Himalayas in Badrinath intimately connected to that great Hindu Sage Adi Sankaracharya, who revived Hinduism with indomitable single-mindedness. At a time when materialism is extending its stranglehold on this ancient land and spiritualism is ebbing away, we need to revive our hoary past if only for the welfare of the coming generation even if we discount its need in this mindless pursuit of pomp and pleasure. Temple worship is at the center of this stupendous endeavour and this book is a small and yet, concrete step in that endeavour.

In this book Sri. A.K.B. Nair explains all aspects connected with temple worship starting from the basic concepts to the installations of the idol, conduct of various rituals, details pertaining to temple visits, details of clothing the devotee must wear, arts and culture surrounding the temples and their significances etc. Two new chapters, one on "Shodasa Samskara" (sixteen sacraments) another one on "Pancha Maha Yajnds" (five great sacrifices) have been added. And these provide a greater insight into the man theme.

About the Author:

Sri. Nair is currently working as Income - Tax Inspector at Calicut. A disciple of Swami Chinmayananda, Sri. A.K.B has been invited to render discourses on Temple culture along the length and breadth of Keralam and he has rendered these discuses in almost all the leading temples of the Kerala state and the invitation extended to him by the Devaswam of SriKrishna Temple in Guruvayoor to render a talk on the theme in Melpathur Auditoriumnamed after that great and immortal devotee of SriKrishna, Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiripad, is a most fitting tribute to the author.
