Foreword Ain s a student of Philosophy, having keen interest in Adivasi philosophy, I was very delighted when Dr. Santosh Kiro requested me to write the foreword of his forthcoming monograph. Somebody venturing into, what he terms as Tribal Philosophy', was a matter of pleasant surprise for me. A scholar endeavouring to philosophise tribal life seemed surprising particularly because of the fact that there has not been very honest and persistent effort in studying this important aspect of this community by the students of Philosophy. So tribal, more so Adivasi studies, have virtually remained so far, the favourite domain of the sociologists, anthropologists, historians, and lately of political scientists. In this sense, Dr. Kiro's work is more or less treading a lone furrow. For me, this internal reading of a community is very encouraging at a time when Adivasi studies have been dominated by non-Adivasi scholars.
