About the Book

Adi Shankara Bhagavadpada, considered to be the incarnation of Lord Siva, lived only 32 years. Within that short period what he achieved would be difficult to comprehend in these days of technological development such as in communication, transport etc. From the northern most inaccessible Himalayas to Kanyakumari, the southern tip of India, he had traveled by foot spreading his philosophy of Advaita or monoism, in which the Jeevatma and Paramatma are considered to be inseparable. He established his Mutts in a number of places, which are being venerated even today by devout Hindus. He posted his disciples to carry on his teachings through these Mutts, where the Sishyaparampara continues to date spreading his philosophy.

Adi Shankara had written several treatises in Sanskrit and also composed many series of verses like the Soundaryalahari, Bhajagovindam etc.

The story of Adi Shankara has been retold in simple English here by Sri N. Raghavan with illustrations by Smt. Lalitha Thyagarajan.
