About the Author

Dr. H.S. Singh is a retired Indian Forest Service officer and former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests in the state of Gujarat. He served as Member of National Board for Wildlife and Member, Gujarat State Board for Wildlife. He held various positions in forestry and wildlife sector and also worked as Chief Wildlife Warden of Gujarat and Head of Social Forestry Wing and Chairman, Gujarat Biodiversity Board, Gandhinagar. Dr. Singh has earned several national and international awards and published numerous books, several scientific documents and over four dozen scientific articles in national and inter- national journals. He has a long association with the Gir forest and the Gir lion.
