The aim of this book is to explain conservation of cultural property and heritage, to describe its principles and objectives, and in so doing to explain its methodology. The book, then, is intended in the main for those researchers that are working in the field of archaeology, museology and conservation. It can be used both by those who are already committed to heritage management and by those who are studying, taking subsidiary courses in conservation. The general reader who at some time has had an introduction to civil engineering and chemistry should have no difficulty in following the text where all but the very basic scientific terms are explained.

Dr. Dilip Kumar Kushwaha : He is an academician at Gurukul Kangri Univeristy, Haridwar. He is presently serving as Assistant Professor, Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology and has diploma in civil engineering. Dr. Kushwaha have vast experience in conservation, explorations and excavations from proto historic to historic period.

The conservation is defined as a process in which a monument or an object is preserved in its existing state from further destruction or change. It involves a variety of repair to increase the longevity of the monument and as far as possible preserving the authenticity of the monument.
