About The Book
If, as you hold this book in your hand, the thought crosses your mind: “Another book on the Gita! Do we need so many of them?” Rev. Dada J.P. Vaswani’s response is: We need many more of them!
The Gita, as Sadhu Vaswani describes it, is the Bible of Humanity, the Universal Scripture. It is not just meant for scholars and philosophers, but ordinary mortals like us; and Rev. Dada’s purpose in offering the Gita “in a nutshell” is to make it accessible, comprehensible to us all.
To this end, Rev. Dada offers us succinct summaries of each chapter and follows it up with his comments and exercises which lead us to thank for ourselves and make choice that apply to our own lives.
Reading this book will only be a beginning – for you will soon find yourself practising the Gita’s ideals, living the Lord’s teachings in deeds of daily life.
With Rev. Dada’s guidance, you will discover the Gita as a manual of practical wisdom to guide you through the journey of life!
Foreword
Whenever I reflect on the Gita, my heart feels a thrill of devotion for Sri Krishna, the Divine Lord who came to live amongst mortals with His Message; and I bow my head in lowly reverence to my beloved Gurudev, Sadhu Vaswani, whom I regard as the ‘Supreme Yogi’ so beautifully described in the Gita.
Gurudev Sadhu Vaswani spoke to us on the Gita: he translated the Gita into Sindhi and English. He wrote much on the Gita. Above all, by precept and example, he interpreted the teaching of the Gita and taught us to reflect on its sublime message. He became one with the Gita. To many of us indeed, he was a living embodiment of the Gita.
To Gurudev Sadhu Vaswani, the Gita was not just a sceipture meant to be recited or memorised: it was a manual of practical wisdom, a guide to daily living. Therefore, he urged us: “You must live the Gita, be the Gita!”
This book is dedicated to my beloved Gurudev, with the humble aspiration that the simplicity, profundity and wisdom which he brought to his commentaries on the Gita, may be made accessible to as many seekers – and soldiers, on the battlefield that is life.
