Book Description
Even a cursory reading of the methods laid forth here will instil great hope in the heart; it gives the confidence that anyone who works hard can surely develop an integrated personality. This is because the methods explained here can be practised by everyone. Given a serious reading, the chapters herein reveal that the responsibility of building one's personality lies wholly on one's own shoulders, and that personality development does not happen by chance nor by somebody's blessing. By a keen study of the following pages one will be astonished to learn that development of personality is very much a science. Obviously the prospect of possessing a glorious personality depends on how and how much of this science is applied in day-to-day life.
A close study and analysis of the lives of those who have developed an integrated personality will show that they worked hard to cultivate the four main aspects of personality — physical, intellectual, moral and spiritual. The significance of the first two aspects is easily understandable to the modern man; but the importance of developing the other two — moral and spiritual facets — needs to be driven home. Suffice it to say that development of physical and mental powers to the exclusion of the other two shall prove to be a threat to the well-being of the society.
So our youths should strive to cultivate all these four aspects and thereby build a harmonious and comprehensive personality.
So, we understand that the strength and glory of a nation depends on the sum total of the character of each individual constituting that nation. Now, what does it mean when we say a person has a powerful character or powerful personality? Does it mean he has a strong body? Or that he has a tremendous intellect? Or that he has vast knowledge? All these are correct no doubt, but these are all just certain aspects of personality, not the whole. What then is meant by a comprehensive, powerful personality? When we analyse this point, we find that a comprehensive, powerful personality comprises of four important aspects —
1. Physical Strength
2. Intellectual Strength
3. Moral Strength
4. Spiritual Strength
If we have to say that a person's character is all-rounded, that his potential has been completely manifested, it means that all these four aspects —physical, intellectual, moral and spiritual — must be fully developed in him. If a person has a very strong physique, but no intellectual growth, he is no better than a strong bull. An intelligent man, who lacks moral development, is but a cunning fox! Without spiritual strength, all these strengths — physical, mental, moral — become like an edifice on sand, with no solid foundation and hence no certainty and permanence; in fact, they all become meaningless without spiritual development. Hence we have to clearly understand the significance of all these four aspects of our personality, and then make a firm resolve to develop all these four aspects in us and make our whole personality strong and meaningful.
