Preface
Vol-I
In modern times, election studies have become quite popular and interesting among the political scientists. Now, elections are taken as a means of socio-economic and political change, political education, mass mobilisation and participation. Moreover, elections are an important method to test the legitimacy of a political system. They provide an opportunity to various segments of society to capture the levers of power and, thereby, influence the process of decision making. Thus,. elections are a trial of strength among various social forces competing with one another for capturing the position of power. Actually, the democratic set-up is based on the electoral process and adult franchise. Elections at the Central level have a connotation for the people which are totally different from what the State elections have for the electorate, because in the former the electorate think more of the nation and party politics. The party and the individual assume added importance in the State elections.

The constitutional scheme in India makes it clear that the legislatures including those of States are placed in the hands of representatives of public elected at regular intervals by means of free and fair elections.

The present volume discusses the dynamics of electoral politics in Haryana from 1921 to 1977. The relevant information has been collected from different sources.
