Rashtra Kavi Govind Pai (1883-1963), the only Poet Laureate of Kannada, was an eminent Poet, Playwright, Prose writer and a great intellectual in Modern Kannada. His first collection Gilivindu which consists of 46 poems exhibits the poet's perspective towards life, his love for the country; his responsiveness to nature around him and his love for Kannada.
His Nandadeepa consisting of 37 poems, is a tribute of devotion to God. Sri Pai's name will be remembered for ever both in the realm of Kannada language as well as in the minds of Kannada people.
N. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, the author of this monograph has written a number of articles in Kannada, English and German. He has translated Subbanna by Masti into German. Presently, Reader and Head of the Dept. of English, M.G.M. college, Udupi, the author evaluates in this slender volume, the life and work of Govind Pai for the benefit of non Kannada readers.
