The House of The Tagores

Jorasanko Thakurbari or the House of Tagore at Jorasanko, Kolkata turned into the pivot of the Bengal Renaissance. It was not only Rabindranath Tagore, but many other distinguished members of the Tagore family who contributed immensely to the regeneration of Indian culture. Hironmoy Banerjee, a member of the Indian Civil Service, and the first Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, took up the daunting task of writing a brief history of the Jorasanko Thakurbari along with the genealogy of the illustrious family of Tagores. Since its first publication in 1963, The House of the Tagores has been widely read. The interest in this publication still persists. Therefore, Rabindra Bharati University has decided to publish a reprint of the book that, we believe, the readers will be keen to read.
