Foreword

This is indeed a matter of great pleasure for me to write a foreword for this book of my student Dr. Subhash Waghe. I congratulate him for bringing such a nice book on clinical methods which establishes the scientific credentials of Ayurveda in a disease diagnosis process. Interest in Ayurveda is growing day by day across the globe. Ayurvedic colleges are being set up in various countries. Modern day Ayurvedic students compare both ancient and modern medical literature. In this scenario, this book of Dr. Waghe was the need of the hour.

His books are trend setters in the field of Ayurveda. Like his first book on differential diagnosis, in this book also he had tried to put the things in innovative way. All things have been explained very lucidly and vividly with picture illustrations wherever necessary. Many new things have been added in this book related to ayurvedic clinical methods such as auscultation of respiratory and cardiovascular systems, percussion of the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems from Ayurvedic point of view. This was obscure in ancient books, Dr. Waghe had taken enormous pain to bring the hidden information about clinical methods from various ayurvedic literature and presented it in a way that puts Ayurveda as scientific system of medicine on world front.

The other aspect of 'Prashna Pariksha' (Interogation) according to acharya Arundutta has also been given in this book which went unnoticed by many due to popular' Prashna Pariksha' mentioned by acharya Sushruta. But Dr. Waghe had brought this before us which stress the need to ask about the habits of the patient (Su-Chhandatwam And Du- Chhandatwam) while interrogating a patient. Importance of interrogating every point had also been narrated logically. Similarly, beside the popular 'Ashtawidh Pariksha' (eight fold examination) by Yogaratnakara, the other 'Ashtavidh Pariksha' by Acharya Siddha Nagarjuna had also found a place which emphasizes to examine nails and dentures which are not included in earlier 'Ashtavidh Pariksha' of Yogaratnakara. Also while stating the Tailbindu Pariksha' of urine, the views of other acharyas such as Shambhu and Basavraj had also been included. Similarly, the new research information about 'Tailbindu Pariksha' of urine, had also been quoted which may prove immensely useful to the PG students interested in this area. The entire 'Ashtavidh Pariksha'is revised by Dr. Waghe so as to cover the large information of Ayurveda and modern science under various points of eight fold examination and dared to incorporate that in it which I suppose is the need of the hour. While describing 'Dashwidh Pariksha' (Ten fold examination), the latest genomic information related to 'Prakriti' had also been included. In the same examination, under "Satwa Pariksha', a new approach to assess the mental strength on scale is given covering ancient and modern symptomatology. His suggestion to evolve a 'Sar Pariksha' scale and laboratory is also laudable. The hidden Sushrutokta, 'Ekadashvidh Pariksha' had also been highlighted by Dr. Waghe.
