The Primitive Village and Other Poems

The Primitive Village is a significant landmark in the poetic journey of Manprasad Subba, a noted Nepali poet. The depth and density of feelings and thoughts have shaped the poems in this collection with a different texture and tone unlike his previous poems. The title poem that runs to nearly nine hundred lines and is divided into two parts, is the major poem in this collection, yet other poems in it are also equally significant to display his poetic prowess.

Manprasad Subba (1952) has so far published seven collections of his poems and also a novella. To quote Prof. Krishna Gautam, a noted Nepali critic, "While observing the vast expanse of Subba's fertile writing we can discover a lot more in his poems. Detailed study of his poetry makes it clear that he does not want to remain static. He keeps moving ahead with newer and newer approaches.
