Book Description

From the Jacket

A brilliant portrayal of the eternal conflict between spiritualism and the material world, through Saint Tukaram's life story. His complete surrender to devotion of Lord Hari leads to financial distress in the family, which his wife Avalai is unable to cope with. Can spiritualism overcome material needs? Rich in lyrics, the play holds a universal appeal for all times.

About the Book

The younger brother of the noted Indo English poet, Sarojini Naidu, Harindranath Chattopadhyaya has been an important presence in diverse fields like poetry, drama, films, music and painting and was a member of the Rajya Sabha for some time. Far more prolific than his sister, he has, during a poetic career spread over more than half a century, published numerous volumes of verse. Among His equally numerous plays are Abu Hassan, a light fantasy, brief verse plays dealing with the lives of saints and short prose plays with socialistic sympathies like the window and the Sentry's Lantern. His verse plays are mostly dramatic poetry rather than poetic drama proper.
