About The Book

The present Commemoration Volume is a symbol of the love and appreciation of his numerous pupils, friends and admirers. There can't be a better tribute to a scholar like him than this compendium of research papers reflecting various facets of Orientology, contributed by the scholars from the East and the West.

The present volume has got eight sections of Orientology representing eight pillars of a strong edifice. The volume is enriched with the contributions received from scholars round the globe. The contributing scholars are authorities in their respective fields. This endeavour, like the life of the personality it commemorates, was not without hardship.

About The Author

Dr. Raghunath Panda (born 1952), Professor of Sanskrit, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, had his M.A. (1973, first class first position), M. Phil. (1983), Ph.D (1993) and LL.B. (1997) with distinction from the same University. He has to his credit five valuable books: (1) Rukminiparinaya Mahakavyam: A Study, (2) Contri bution of Orissa to Sanskrit Literature (1994), (3) Gleanings from Sanskrit Literature (2001), (4) Jayadeva Bibliography (2001) and (5) Orissa's Contribution to Sanskrit Lyrics (2004). A prolific writer on Sanskrit lyrics, he has also edited two volumes of the Vani Jyotih, the research journal of the P.G. Department of Sanskrit of Utkal University. A recipient of numerous awards, Prof. Panda is a valuable contributor to Indological research journals in India and abroad.

Dr. Madhusudan Mishra (born 1964) passed his Post -graduation in Sanskrit from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar (1985) securing the coveted first class first position. A brilliant student throughout his career, he had his M. Phil (1987) and Ph.D (1993) from the University of Poona. He worked in the Vaidika Samshodhana Mandala, Pune, the premier Vedic Research Institute in India in the Kanva Samhita and Avesta projects from 1987 to 1992. He has already brought out four books: (1) Critical Study of the Varttikas of Katyayana, (2) Householders' discipline in Jainism, (3) Vedic Scholars from the West and 4) Ganesha: A Synthesis of Aryan and Non-Aryan Culture. A distinguished contributor to the leading research journals, Dr. Mishra is at present engaged in editing the book: The Cult of the Mother Goddess: Fictions and Facts, besides imparting teaching in K.K.S. Women's College, Balasore, Orissa.
